Toby L. Nelson obtained his B.S. in chemistry from Francis Marion University in 2001. After graduation, he joined IRIX Pharmaceuticals as a junior chemist. He then worked with Professor John J. Lavigne on conjugated polymer assemblies for biogenic amine sensing as it relates to food spoilage at the University of South Carolina and was awarded his Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 2007. From then until 2011, he designed and synthesized conducting polymers for printable electronics as a UNCF•Merck Postdoctoral Science Research Fellow with Professor Richard D. McCullough at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Nelson joined the chemistry faculty at Oklahoma State University in the Fall of 2011. Professor Nelson’s research emphasizes the development of new organic semiconductors-electronic materials and their application in organic electronics, sensors and bioelectronics.
