The collaboration between the Stoltz and Grubbs groups has developed an effective and general method to convert C–H bonds on typically challenging heterocyclic substrates to versatile C–Si bonds, using Potassium tert-butoxide as the catalyst.

This report in Organic Synthesis provides a detailed account of how to perform this transformation, describing how this can be done reliably on a large scale.
